Palliative Care in Germany and Ukraine
Palliative Care is an international movement. The two comprehensive professional societies IAHPC (International Association for Hospice & Palliative Care) and WHPCA (Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance) as well as the continental professional societies such as the EAPC (European Association for Palliative Care) make this clear. After graduating from the European Palliative Care Academy in 2017, Andreas Stähli went on a six-months journey to Central Asia, East and Southeast Europe as part of a field study funded by the WHO region Europe and the EAPC. The trip took him to 28 countries. Beside the published research findings, establishing numerous contacts to experts in specialized care and educational work was the result of the journey. At the Academy of Johannes-Hospiz he realized a great number of projects in educational work, which were funded by the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany from 2019 to 2021. Talks and seminars (professional and interdisciplinary, in person and online) and the organisation of mutual visits and short internships in Ukraine and Germany were part of these projects. A special focus was and still is the publication of writings on topics of Palliative Care in Ukrainian language.
