Andreas Stähli was born in Munich (Germany) and studied philosophy, theology , and mathematics at the universities of Berlin, Munich and Münster. He received his doctorate in philosophy in 2010 with a dissertation on the ancient philosophical ARS MORIENDI (latin for “the art of dying”) and its presence in practical hospice work. He is a registered nurse, specialized in palliative care, and had worked for 14 years on two palliative wards and in an in-patient hospice in Munich and Münster.

Andreas Stähli is instructor for palliative care and a graduate of the European Academy for Palliative Medicine. He has been working in palliative care since 1996, and had been head of the Academy at Johannes-Hospiz in Münster from 2009 until February 2024.

He is a member of the German Society for Palliative Medicine and of the European Association for Palliative Care. He is also part of the Scientific Advisory Board of the “German Journal of Palliative Medicine” and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the “Palliative Medicine in Practice”, the official magazine of the Polish Association of Palliative Care.

Since 2017, he has been carrying out numerous educational projects in palliative care in and for Ukraine. The foundation of a series of publications on issues of organisation and supply in palliative care („Серія публікацій з питань організації та надання паліативної допомоги“) in 2021 is part of that project work.
